Tampa Confidential: Rob Steinfeld

I would never say there is a typical day here. Even if I have the day planned out, something related to one of our clients will come up, and this will immediately change my course for the day. Without our clients, we don’t exist, so if we have a new client or an existing client that needs us to do research or has a question — that becomes our priority. We have 35 independent consultants [who work with us], so in essence, those are my No. 1 clients, although I do have some clients I personally take care of. The majority of my day I am working on sales strategies with our independent consultants as well as our suppliers — the individual cruise lines, like Celebrity. In the evening, after we are closed, I am committed to servicing my individual personal clients.

I enjoy teaching my team to become amazing vacation consultants the most. There is a big difference between a travel agent and a vacation consultant. As vacation consultants,  we take the time to listen to our clients’ needs and recommend the very best destination (cruise or land). The most rewarding part of what I do is when either one of our consultants or clients tells us that we made a difference. We may send a bottle of wine to a client on their cruise with us and the moment they board, they post a picture on social media of them holding the bottle saying, “world’s best travel consultant.”

I am a big sports fan, so when it comes to experiencing Tampa, you might often find me at a Rays game (especially when they are playing the Yankees). I also enjoy watching a Broadway show at the Straz Center. My all-time favorite show is Wicked.

If you are only in Tampa for a day, you must go to Curtis Hixon Park and visit the Tampa Museum of Art and the Glazer Children’s Museum. In the evening it’s spectacular to see the lighted water fountains and changing colors from the Riverwalk to the Kennedy Boulevard Bridge. If you have time, definitely try the Pirate Water Taxi and possibly stop at Armature Works for a great lunch or dinner.
